Fossil Ridge Baseball is now underway and the team has big expectations.
After a disappointing playoff performance and a loss as the number one seed in the first round of the state playoff bracket, this year’s roster looks to improve.
The Sabercats have a very impressive and talented team this year, with multiple players going to play at the collegiate level next year.
Vedant Sharma and Owen Morgan are top players going to play some of the most competitive baseball in college, with Morgan going to the University of Oregon and Sharma going to Harvard University.
An underclassman, Brady Bradford, has shown great skill and potential by playing on the varsity team in his sophomore year.
To see what makes our players so dominant, an interview took place.
All three players have been playing baseball almost their entire lives.
“I’ve played baseball since I was five years old,” Sharma said.
“Yeah, me too” both Bradford and Morgan said.
Sharma is a dominant starting pitcher, and he stated that his most impressive part of his game is how fast he can throw.
“I can get up to 95 mph on my fastball now,” Sharma said.
Bradford and Morgan pair up at shortstop and second base together. They both said that their hitting is their most impressive part of their game.
“I would say I am more of a contact hitter,” Bradford states.
“I am too but I have a little more pop in my bat than him, I will hit for power sometimes,” Morgan states.
Bradford and Morgan are hitting the ball great to start the season with Bradford hitting .423 with Morgan not far behind him with a .409 average.
To put that in perspective, the MLB average is .249.
Morgan is also leading the team in home runs with three right now.
Sharma is dominating on the mound to start the season. He threw a no-hitter against Grand Junction in an 8-0 victory.
Sharma’s ERA on the season happens to be 4.54. Sharma commented, “I would like to get that down a little bit more.”
These players set the bar high for their season goals.
Sharma and Morgan want to finish their last season winning a State Championship while Bradford stated, “I want to finish above .400.”
Fossil Ridge has a great outlook on the season, and now it’s up to these players to succeed and bring some wins back this year.
