Fossil track athletes compete at the Northern Colorado League Conference and place among the competitive field

Fossil athletes participated in the 2025 Northern Colorado League Conference where the girls team brought home the first place title and boys placed third. The track meet spanned over the course of two days, taking place on April 30 and May 2.

The girls team individually won the 3200m, 1600m, 800m, 4×100, 4×800, 4×200, 4×400, and long jump. The boys team individually won the 4×200, triple jump, high jump, and long jump. The boys and girls were able to place a lot of athletes in the top five in many events, with 13  individual boys placing and 24 individual girls placing.

On Wednesday, the meet started with high winds, making sprint times illegal and illegible for state qualifying times. Despite the wind, 10 Fossil athletes were able to finish in the top eight to compete in their events finals on Friday.

Fossil girls also won the overall 4x100m relay, gapping Windsor’s second place, and finishing one second or more ahead of the rest of the field. The Fossil boys 4x100m relay finished second, behind Fort Collins.

Due to weather alerts, the boys 3200m and 4×800 relays were delayed while the 200m, 300m hurdles, girls long jump, pole vault, boys shot put, and triple jump were postponed till Friday. Despite the delay and downpouring rain, Fossil boys placed fourth through seventh in the 3200m and third overall for the 4x800m relay. The Fossil girls 4x800m relay won their event, with anchor Mia Williams finishing 10 seconds ahead of Fort Collins, who placed second.

Friday events started with a run-off between Fossil athlete Gavin Zanotelli and Fort Collins athlete Andre Rose, after they both ran the same time in the preliminary round. Zanotelli had lots of team support cheering him on, but Rose pulled away with the win and got to compete in the finals.

The girls continued their sweeps in the distance events with runners Tatum Berg and Williams leading the way by placing first in the 1600m and 800m events. Addyson Smith won the 100m and Addison Hayes, Field MVP high scorer for the meet, won the long jump.

Field MVP and Overall Meet MVP high scorer Luke Garvin won both the triple and high jump events. Marcus Mozer won the boys long jump.

The girls and boys 4x200m both placed first overall in the meet. The girls team finished over three seconds ahead of Fort Collins in second place, and the boys ran over a second ahead of Rocky Mountain in second place.

The meet concluded with the 4x400m relays where the boys placed fifth overall. The girls won their relay by over two seconds, Windsor placing second.

While most athletes ended their season at Conference, a few athletes will continue at the Last Chance meets this weekend, which will give them a final opportunity to qualify for state. The state meet will take place on May 15-17 at the Jeffco Stadium.
