Since the first year of Fossil being open, the senior class has given a gift to commemorate their time at the school.
The senior class sponsors, Meredith McGowan and Kara Felske, have been working with the senior class to find a gift that will leave a mark on the school.
“It’s kind of their legacy to leave on Fossil,” McGowan said. “With each senior class, it’s been interesting to see what they prioritize and what they want to leave.”
The 2024 senior class left a rock art feature that is placed at the front of the school.
“We’ve thought about updating some stuff, but we got a really cool rock art feature last year and didn’t want to do the same thing again this year. We want to make sure we are serving the community differently,” McGowan said.
Many ideas were thrown around throughout the year by various students and staff members.
“We were thinking of an updated Fang mascot costume, a flagpole out by the soccer, tennis, and track field, or iPads for testing,” McGowan said.
After much consideration, the senior class and sponsors decided to go with new unified sports jerseys.
“For the jerseys, Julia Childs and Chloe Farr came up with it,” McGowan said. “We want all of our athletes to be comfortable in what they’re wearing and making sure that they have the appropriate sizes.”
The unified sports coaches, students, and families are ecstatic to get a jersey refresh.
“Our unified sports have been using the same jerseys for a number of years,” said Unified Sports coach Kimberly Gardner. “So when McGowan, Julia, and Chloe came to me with the idea, I was so excited. It’s absolutely beautiful, and it was beyond kind.”
The gift will be revealed on social media sometime this week.
