Students swarmed the Fossil Ridge Media Center on Thursday for Fossil’s annual Club Rush. From leadership to volunteering, Fossil offers clubs suited towards nearly any interest. Three club members have shared their favorite aspects about their club.
FRESH Club
Fossil Ridge Energy Saving High (FRESH) club focuses on the environment, offering different projects and volunteer opportunities throughout the year.
“It’s different from other clubs because we get to do a lot of community service, and we really get to learn,” junior Gianna di Leandro said.
Learning by doing is often the focus of activities.

“My favorite activity is picking up trash around the school. It’s just really nice to see our parking lot so clean afterwards,” she said.
Members learn about global issues such as fast fashion and plastic waste while also doing fun projects, like making recycled paper.
“I really care about the environment,” di Leandro said. “It’s really nice to learn my impact and how I can do better to help our environment.”
Science Bowl
For students who enjoy competition and teamwork, Science Bowl may be a good fit.
Senior James Lee enjoys the timed aspect of the club.
“Basically, it’s kind of like Jeopardy,” Lee said. “It’s speed based. It’s team based, where you work with your teammates to answer questions faster than the other team. It doesn’t require memorizing stuff in science, but actually understanding so that you can answer questions quickly.”
The competitions help to develop life skills, he said.

“You learn teamwork. You learn to be more assertive. You learn to not doubt yourself. You have to trust yourself when you answer the questions quickly,” Lee said. “And you learn… just really working with a team honestly, and just like synergizing well.”
Students do not even need to be great at science to participate.
“You don’t need to be good at science or even math to join,” Lee said. “It’s for people who want to have fun, work with other people and who want to compete. It’s a fun club, and [students] should totally join.”
Fossil Ridge Ambassadors
The Fossil Ridge Ambassadors team offers students leadership opportunities on topics often overlooked at school.
Senior Camryn Lenz explains what makes their group special.

“This club is unique because it talks about a lot of taboo topics that no one really talks about, such as sexual assault and domestic violence, as well as kind of it’s kind of a servant leadership which is different from all the other leadership classes,” Lenz said.
There are various activities Ambassadors partake in to show leadership around the community.
“Every single Friday, we go to Bacon [Elementary School] and hang out with second graders for the class period,” Lenz said. “We do like name games, the kind of games you played in elementary school.”
Students have the opportunity to join Ambassadors for the next school year by going through a video and essay submission process in May.
Whether or not these specific clubs are geared towards your taste, there are many more that can be found on the Fossil website.
