Fossil Ridge closes season with win against Bulldogs

Seniors were honored, records were broken, and Fossil Ridge High School’s football team got the win over the Brighton Bulldogs in their final season game Thursday at Timnath PSD Stadium.

Senior night recognition was extra sweet for wide receiver Eli Swanson. With 195 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns, Swanson broke the Fossil single season receiving yards and touchdowns record.

Fossil started off strong with a 52-yard touchdown pass from sophomore quarterback Colton Jantz to wide receiver Brayden Higgins, who attributed the team’s success to working together.

“I think that our teamwork helped us out in this game,” junior Higgins said.

By halftime, Fossil found themselves ahead 24-0, behind two Swanson touchdowns and a 30-yard field goal from junior Holden Bouso to end the half.

One of Fossil’s leaders, junior tight end Caleb Camping, credited seniors for the big night.

“All of our seniors made at least one big play,” Camping said.

Jantz also played an incredible game, throwing for 5 passing touchdowns and 413 passing yards.

Higgins hopes to build off this win heading into next season.

“We have a lot of juniors and sophomores, and we need to build on this heading into next season,” he said.

In the second half, Swanson put up two more touchdowns, and senior running back Damien Masters also ran for a touchdown. Fossil ended up winning 45-22, but the main story of the game was Swanson’s record-breaking plays.

“It was a big night for Eli,” Camping said. “Everyone was clicking this game.”

Fossil will now move into the offseason as they hope to carry their momentum from this win into next season.
