Longtime teacher Sarah Socolofsky returns to Fossil Ridge High School after three years at Kinard Middle School, this time in the Family and Consumer Sciences Department.
“I really feel like it’s my family, the other teachers here are some of my best friends,” said Socolofsky, who used to teach French at Fossil as part of her nearly 20-year career. ”I know the school, I know the administration, I know my colleagues, and I just felt really comfortable here, and when I left to go to Kinard, I really missed that a lot.”
While at Kinard, Socolofsky taught French classes and family and consumer science. At Fossil, she is teaching Teen Choices, Interior Design, Culinary Nutrition, Child Development, and Interpersonal Relationships.
Freshman Andy Xu, a student in her second period Teen Choices class, thinks she paves the way to success.
“I like the policy where if you miss any work, it’s an automatic 40% off of the final grade because it’s a good starting point because when you go to college, teachers aren’t going to be that soft, and this starts you off on a good path,” Xu said.
Socolofsky said she felt super welcomed back and felt her love for the community grow even more.
“It felt to me like they were genuinely enthusiastic and happy to have me back. There were so many people that were giving me big hugs and saying, ‘We’re so excited for you,’” Socolofsky said. “And yeah, I was able to come into this year feeling very grateful and respected that as a teacher, Fossil would want to have me back.”
Family and consumer sciences teacher Kara Laine thinks that Socolofsky is a valuable teacher in the school.
“I think she’s brought so many new, fresh ideas to our department, and she’s really passionate about getting students excited about topics,” Laine said, “and so it’s really fun to see the different things that she is willing to offer her students to do in class.”
