Drake Walker, a senior at Fossil Ridge, scored his 1000th point against the Fort Collins Lambkins on Friday night. Walker, who transferred to Fossil his junior year, has been a standout player this season for the Sabercats. “I was excited,” Walker said. “I was hoping I could do it in a kinda fun way and I was able to get a good shot to get my 1000th.” Walker also expressed his gratitude towards the fans and the Fossil family with a reminder: “We aren’t done yet.” The clutch, stocky player is leading the team with 19.3 points per game. Walker’s presence is undeniably seen on the court with Lambkin fans asking for autographs after the game and Fossil fans repping “1000 Points” shirts.
Apart from the milestone, these games tend to be historically energetic, and this game did not disappoint. Right from the start, the energy was through the roof. Fans were getting rowdy cheering on their school’s team. Both schools have extremely passionate students who love showing up and getting loud for their team. Upwards of 200 Fossil students showed up to the game, outnumbering the Lambkin’s student fans. During ha

lftime, Fort Collins hosted a fan shooting competition. The Lambkins ultimately won the halftime game but this just motivated the Fossil fans to up the energy during the last two quarters.
The Sabercats showcased a balanced offensive attack and strong defense, overwhelming and exposing the Lambkins en route to a 29-point victory. Junior forward Jaimeson Peterson was a force on both ends of the floor with nine points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore guard Malachi Egbuji led the team in scoring with 15 points, going 5-for-10 from the field. Walker himself put up 13 while senior Carter Grey and junior Vander Eberhard both put six points on the board.
Fossil won the game 63-34.
