Senior PSD hockey players comment on their hot start to the season and what’s to come

The PSD Stars hockey team is off to another strong start much like last year. In the 2024-2025 season, at one point, the Stars were ranked #1 in the country on MaxPreps. This year is no different. So far, the Stars are 11-0-1 and are currently ranked in the top 10 teams in the country.

In interviews with senior players #7, defenseman and Captain, Eli Brackeen, and #8, winger Chuck Wicklund, they gave some input on their stellar season so far and what’s to come later this season.

Though the team hasn’t lost yet, they have felt some pressure from othergood teams.

“Ralston Valley is definitely our toughest matchup this year because they’re always kinda good,” Brackeen said.

Brackeen’s goal for the season: “My main goal for the year is to be a good leader to my teammates and represent them in a good way because this is my first year wearing the ‘C’ on my chest,” Brackeen said.

“My goal is to compete and have my presence felt on the ice and definitely win a state championship because we got close last year and this is my last chance,” Wicklund said about his goal for this year.

Both players are looking forward to playing Ralston again as well as Denver East because they said those games are “higher competition play.”.

Brackeen and Wicklund both said that their favorite games so far this season have been when they played Valor and Cherry Creek back to back, which are both really good teams, and PSD won 7-3 and then 9-1, which enforced dominance in their league.

Wicklund described his team as “incredibly fast compared to their opponents” and “goal-driven because every player gives 110% on the ice.

The next PSD Stars game is against Denver East at home on 1/24, which usually is a heated matchup.

There are seven games left in the regular season and with the current standings, a home playoff game could certainly happen.
