Fossil Ridge boys basketball faced off against crosstown rival, the Poudre Impalas, on January 23, at Poudre High School.
The Sabercats once again faced a tough, local opponent on the road this week, taking down the Poudre Impalas and solidifying their name as conference champions. Backed by its powerhouse offense and its lockdown defense, Fossil’s ability to punish its opponents has been clear with a 7-1 record in the last 8 games. The Cats outscored the Impalas in all four quarters, demonstrating their authority on the court. Poudre, who came into the matchup 5-8, fought hard but still fell short to the Sabercats.
The season so far has gone great for the Sabercats, who have won seven of their games by a lead of at least 20 points, and this latest win against the Impalas was just another check in that box.
Senior Andrew Hamlin interviewed after the game and said, “I think we were very efficient today shooting and showed that we are the top competition in our conference and city.” The Cats’ confidence on and off the court has given them an edge to overcome the competition.
Sophomore Malachi Egbuji helped pave the way to victory with 19 points and seven rebounds, earning a nomination for Player of the Week. Junior Vander Eberhard shot well with 12 points. Eli Hughes came off the bench and put 10 points on the board for the Cats. Other key contributors, such as Jameson Peterson (five assists, three steals) and Carter Gray (six points, four assists), both helped the Sabercats win the game.
Fossil won the game 77-41, and they moved on to 11-5. Next game is against Rocky Mountain on January 27, 2026 at Fossil Ridge High School.
