Fossil Ridge High School replaced its scoreboard in the gym this week. The old scoreboard was out of date and had lights burnt out and needed to be fixed, and with a new rule that CHSAA passed to implement a shot clock for basketball, a new board was needed.
Since the shot clock is going to have to be visible to players, the shot clocks are added to the backboards and displayed on the scoreboard.
This also means that all schools need a shot clock on their scoreboard now, schools need the same scoreboard and set up to display a shot clock. The district had installed Fossil’s scoreboard as the final school in the district.
The new flat screen scoreboard has multiple uses and is not just for sports games.
“It’s going to be used during games, band, assemblies, and whatever else is going on in the gym,” Carrie Hintzman said.
Hintzman also said, “The district paid for all of it because it was a CHSAA rule.”
The dynamics of the scoreboard are actually a bunch of little flat-screen panels attached to form a huge flat screen that can be used to display anything. Advertisements are going to be shown on the scoreboard too so there is a return for buying the new board.
PSD’s social media director, DJ James, said, “The new scoreboard definitely helps with our social media as it makes the gym look more modern and energetic, which leads to better photos and videos during games and events alongside highlighting district partners.”
James also has great input that makes his work and our school look more professional. “It also gives us more to work with from a content standpoint. Things like live feeds, graphics, and a more ‘game-day’ feel similar to what you see at the college level.”
With flat screen upgrades the experience for social media workers, players, and fans, doesn’t just upgrade the experience for people associated with Fossil; it’s an upgrade for everyone in the district, which adds a lot to our sports community.
The first game in which the new scoreboard was used was on March 26 when Fossil Boys Volleyball faced off at homer vs. Niwot.
The new scoreboard is going to last for years, too, because it is easily accessible, and since there are a lot of individual panels, each one can be replaced easily if it has an issue. The panels are impact resistant too meaning that volleyballs, basketball, and other things should bounce right off.
