The Fossil Girls Soccer team is leading statewide with an undefeated season so far. The team is citing their main success on consistency, team chemistry, and confidence. Led by a senior-heavy roster, they have dominated at the top of the district for two consecutive years.
“We’re a pretty tight-knit team, so that helps,” said sophomore Kylie Kephart.
The bond has translated directly into their games, with a packed schedule and games coming just days after others, the team stays focused and prepared. Players credited both their coach and last year’s success as motivation to continually give their best effort.
Unlike many opposing teams that face ups and downs throughout the season, Fossil has largely avoided those close calls. When asked about particularly difficult matchups, however, Northfield High School, a match they tied one and one, proved to be a challenge. They used this close call as a learning opportunity for how to best handle difficult situations, what went well, and what could have been better.
“I feel like just having our team culture, and having each other’s backs all the time,” said Lauren Hough.
In preparation for their next matches, they believe they will come out on top, with no contention. This year’s success is especially meaningful for the seniors wanting to leave a lasting legacy and guide the rest of the underclassmen in their years to come.
