Sunflowers and Sundresses: Closet staples

It is easy to get swept up in fun trends, but every girl and guy needs their staple pieces. It is the outfit basics that make the wardrobe go round.

For my ladies,

T-shirts:

It isn’t a surprise that teenagers like their t-shirts (I’m guilty, too). They are such an easy go-to when you’re half asleep in the morning and just want to throw something on. However, these days tees don’t have to be plain; there are so many cute possibilities. Graphic tees are my favorite, and they add just enough to make your t-shirt and shorts outfit pop.

Dresses:

Dresses happen to be one of my favorite staples for the simple reason that they are so easy. You don’t have to worry about matching your top to your bottoms; you can just pull on a dress. To keep it casual, throw on a light sweater, or my personal favorite, a denim vest. It’s instantly a cute outfit!

Boots:

My love of boots has got me through many days when I had no clue what to wear. Boots can be the staple piece in your outfit. If you throw a big sweater over leggings and add boots, it’s the perfect ensemble.

Sweaters:

Now this is mostly a given because we live in Colorado. Oversized sweaters with bright patterns bring some color to your outfit and the colder, drearier days.  But, I am also talking about the light cardigan you can throw over any outfit. Sweaters give your outfit a look of polish when in reality, you might just be a little chilly.

Scarves:

Now this may be my scarf obsession talking, but scarves are an amazing thing. They brighten up a basic tee, or a simple sweater. In the winter they even keep you neck a little warmer.  It is the perfect accessory that adds just a little bit of a pop.

Boys take notes,

More than just the tennis shoes:

I have a little brother- I know you are all guilty of wearing your tennis shoes every single day. For the sake of the longevity of your shoes, shake it up! Keep those tennis shoes ‘cause you love them, but just add a little more. Try a pair of Converse, or Vans. Not too far out of your comfort zone, right?

Shorts:

No, I am not talking about your basketball shorts, because we all know you own them. Invest in some nice shorts like some cargo shorts, or if you are feeling fancy try some colored shorts.

T-shirts:

Of course, you couldn’t live without them, so don’t try. Solid colors are best to be safe, but graphic tees are even better. Make sure they aren’t too big, but please, not too tight.

Stay beautiful, sunflowers.

XOXO
