This week in Fort Collins

By Pauline Verbest and Paige Closson

At FRHS

There are many fun events going on at Fossil Ridge High School this week, so keep your schedules open and come join in the fun.

The play “Metamorphoses” is premiering tonight, so don’t miss out! This dramatic comedy contains a series of short Greek stories and the cast has been working hard to get everything perfect. If you can’t make it to the premiere, there are plenty more opportunities to come and support the cast. “Metamorphoses” will be playing Nov. 15, 16, 21, 22, and 23, and will take place at the Black Box at FRHS.

The Turkey Roundup is on Wednesday, Nov. 20. This is a fun event in which FRHS students come together to help the community. If you can’t stay to help move the turkeys, you can still help by donating turkeys and bringing them to the parking lot in front of the gym before school.

 Around Town

With the holiday’s right around the corner, jingle bells can be heard playing around town and the crisp air is a reminder that ski season has just begun. Since Thanksgiving is still ahead of us, you might not be feeling in the spirit of the holidays just yet, but various events around town this weekend will get you in the peppermint-mocha, gift-wrapping, and driveway-shoveling spirit.

Friday Nov. 15 is the last day to see the 33rd annual Hall of Trees at the Lincoln Center. Local Fort Collins businesses decorated Christmas trees that the public can bid on and a silent auction will be held to sell the beautiful trees. Admission is free and open to the public.

By the Old Town fountains on Friday Nov. 15, the annual Shabbat Candle Lighting will take place. This beautiful ceremony will begin at 4:25 p.m. and Shabbat will end the following day at 5:26 p.m.

The Candle Light Dinner Playhouse is currently preforming Leslie Bricusse’s “Scrooge, The Musical” until Jan. 4. Come and experience good food, friendly service from the cast, and a wonderful show. Dinner begins at 6 p.m. Tickets range between $30 and $60, based on seating, and it is a child-friendly performance. For more information or to purchase your tickets, visit www.coloradocandlelight.com/scrooge.htm.

Even though Thanksgiving is rapidly approaching, it seems Fort Collins has jumped straight to December. I look forward to going to Old Town this time of year because it’s the best place to do holiday shopping, see all the stores’ decorations, and walk under the twinkle lights in the trees. It always gets me ready for the holiday season and it’s sure to warm you from the inside out.
