Author Visit Preview: Ann Brashares

On Monday, April 28, Fossil Ridge High School will be welcoming Ann Brashares, author of The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants series, The Last Summer (of You and Me), My Name is Memory, and her newest book which came out just this month, The Here and Now. Brashares will be in the Round House from 9:30 to 11, which will be during third period and part of fourth.
During her visit here, Brashares will be discussing her life, writing, and her new book. There will also be an open panel in which students will be given the opportunity to ask questions about her. Mrs. Fain was excited to discover that Brashares was coming to town, and said, “It’s almost like taking a fieldtrip… it’s not just discussing the literature, but hearing specifics on how to make it happen.” Fain encourages students, especially those who are interested in reading, writing, or the English arts in general, to come and learn from this unique opportunity. “It can be highly motivating to have that kind of personal contact with someone who’s made it in this very competitive environment,” said Fain. “We’re hoping to inspire young writers.”
Because this event is during classes, there are permission slips required to be excused. Permission slips are available in the media center or on the media center website. You can either turn it in before the event or bring it with you to the event. And remember, all of her books are currently on display at the front of the media center, including The Here and Now, so try to read up on Brashares so you can enter the questionnaire!
