First opening win in school history

Friday night’s matchup between the Fossil Ridge High School Saber Cats and Boulder High School Panthers looked to be just a repeat of Fossil history, continuing the losing streak on opening games. The Cats had never won an opening game in school history, but all of that changed with a 24-14 win over the Panthers.

The Sabercats running attack was potent in the Friday night matchup. The two headed monster of Andrew Sprayberry and Zack Feuer ran for a combined total of 197 yards in the opening win.

That was not the only bright spot of the Fossil football team. The Fossil defense held
the Panthers to 268 total yards of offense Boulder was able to rack up 150 yards on 15 penalties.

Quarterback Mitch Salmela was able to complete 7 of his 14 passes for 78 yards in Friday’s
victory. Cole Schilling led the team in receptions with 38 receiving yards on 5 catches and a 17 yard touchdown strike from Salmela late in the 2nd quarter.
