Fossil Ridge High School graduate turns a writing hobby into a published book

Starting in his sophomore year, Fossil Ridge High School graduate Brandon Sharp began his creative writing journey. Currently studying at Front Range Community College with a plan to transfer to Colorado State University, Sharp has written and signed a deal for his first upcoming book “The Imundari Hunt.”

Signed with the publishing company Malachite Quills, Sharp plans to have his first book released by March 2015. By starting a campaign online, Sharp has reached his goal of 1,500 dollars and is still raising money. Sharp is raising money in order to publish his book. He plans to have his book released in Barnes and Noble, on Amazon and Itunes.

Before Sharp started writing his own stories, he was an avid reader of fantasy novels. Sharp based his books on the same genre. He started his writing free-willed, “We were really bored one day and we just decided to write stories. [And] I just kept with it.” Sharp discovered that his joy of writing could lead into something bigger. “[Writing] was very spontaneous,” Sharp wrote most of the first book at 1am surrounded by friends.

With an original plot, Sharp based his characters off of people he knows, “My cousin Collin is in the book,”said Sharp. The plot of his story is about two orphans named Amber and Cody that get thrown into a portal that leads into different world. Amber and Cody must learn how to cope and survive in this other world where everyone and everything is trying to kill them. “[This] idea popped into my head and I expanded it to another two books,” said Sharp.

“Coming up with the ideas in my head,” was Sharp’s favorite thing about the whole process. Living in Colorado, Sharp enjoys hiking and cliff jumping and the places in his book are heavily inspired by his favorite spots and places–including Chambers Lake. “It was a beautiful time of the year,” said Sharp.

While Sharp is living in Fort Collins, his copy editor, Anne Bloomsburg, was living on the east coast. Bloomsburg and Sharp emailed each other back and forth with edits and corrections for two and a half months. “She went through line by line [and] made sure it made sense to the reader,” said Sharp.

Sharp has a total of four books in this series and plans to have the other three published and released every new year. With finishing the first book a year ago and just now completing the second, Sharp is in the process of writing the third and fourth, and is hopeful for these books to also be published. In support of Sharp, you can donate to Bookstart to help him further in his publishing journey.

Very informative and well written. Seemed like a cool topic that I would have no way if hearing about. Also liked the link in the final paragraph.
