Alternative Fridays: 10 songs for fall

Co-written by Emma Buss and Shelby Pfau

[1.] “Grand Theft Autumn/Where Is Your Boy” (Fall Out Boy, Take This To Your Grave)– Throwing it back to Fall Out Boy’s original pop-punk days, Grand Theft Autumn/Where Is Your Boy is fantastic to rediscover as you continue to settle into your new schedule and meet new people.

[2.] “Sweetness” (Jimmy Eat World, Self-Titled)– As an old favorite, “Sweetness” is one of those songs you cannot help but to sing at the top of your lungs. During the fall season, get your friends together and celebrate the greatness of 90’s rock.

[3.] “The Calendar” (Panic! At The Disco, Vices & Virtues)– As a stripback from the typical Panic! musical style, “The Calendar” is a song for those looking for a move forward to new beginnings.

[4.] “Hoodie Weather” (The Wonder Years, Suburbia I’ve Given You All and Now I’m Nothing)– “Hoodie Weather” is the definition of pop-punk. Lyrics inspired by the weather changing and a teenager’s mind, this song is foolproof.

[5.] “Caraphernelia” (Pierce The Veil, Selfish Machines)– In anticipation of a new album release in 2015, fall is the perfect time to re-listen or to discover Pierce The Veil’s older works. Blending clean and unclean vocals, “Caraphernelia” is a true all around representation of what this band is.

[6.] “ Home For Fall” (Real Friends, Everyone That Dragged You Here)– “Watching the leaves blow/Listen to American Football” these lyrics are the epitome of the fall season. Real Friends deliver simplicity to any one’s ears.

[7.] “When It Rains” (Paramore, Riot!)– Autumn in Colorado is filled with gloomy, rainy days, and that’s the best time to listen to Paramore’s “When It Rains.” Curl up with a blanket and a cup of coffee and let Paramore create an atmosphere like none other while watching rain drops hit the window.

[8.] “Life Underground” (The Amity Affliction, Chasing Ghosts)– “Speak now my precious whispers/Float softly through the breeze” With a perfect mix of clean and unclean vocals, Life Underground will take you through the fall season. Clean vocals from bassist and vocalist Ahren Stringer will feel like the calm before the storm that is Joel Birch’s unclean vocals. Together, they’re a true force of nature.

[9.] “End Of Me” (A Day To Remember, Common Courtesy)– Florida rockers A Day To Remember show their softer side through incredible acoustic songs such as End Of Me. It’s simple yet meaningful lyrics will find their way into your heart and make a place for themselves there.

[10.] “A Part Of Me” ( (Neck Deep feat. Laura Whiteside, Rain In July)– Ending a relationship is hard. It’s harder without a song to sympathize with. Neck Deep’s popular acoustic jam, “A Part Of Me,” is perfect for getting over a summer relationship that may have ended with the coming of fall.
