The third movie for the Hunger Games series, Mockingjay: Part One, directed by Francis Lawrence, came to theaters in the United States on Nov. 21, 2014. The movie has already made $275,500,000 in box offices worldwide in its opening weekend.

This movie begins with Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) at District 13 a few days after she blew up the arena of the Quarter Quell. Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) is being held captive by the Capitol and is being used to make announcements for the capitol to stop the uprising in the Districts.

Lawrence has a major part in the movie as the main character, but Hutcherson was not as big of a role since he is in the capitol. He only appears on the TV making announcements and at the end of the movie. Gale Hawthorne (Liam Hemsworth) has a large part in this movie. Whereas in the last two he was not as big of a role because he was not in the games. Now he is in District 13 with Katniss and he is helping to support the plot more as one of the major characters in the movie.

Compared to the last movie, Catching Fire, this one lacks in action but it makes up for it in the detail. It closely follows the book and has more detail than the last movie, save for a few exceptions. However in some parts the movie goes farther in depth than the book.

An example of this is when District 13 is trying to attempt to rescue Johanna Mason (Jenna Malone) and Peeta from the Capitol. In the book they just talk about how Gale and other soldiers left for them and Katniss is just waiting for them to get back. Whereas in the movie they show a lot more from other peoples perspectives. Since the movie is only the first part of the book it is a little slow because in the book the first half is setting itself up for the second half.

Philip Seymour Hoffman who was one of the main characters of these last three movies passed away on Feb. 2, 2014. His death was one week before they finished filming but director said that they did not have to change the plot at all. He said that they just had to get creative by using different points of view. Mockingjay: Part One was dedicated to him.

So if you are a true Hunger Games fan you will enjoy this movie even without all the action because it is just exciting to see the new movies and how they portray the book. But if you are not a Hunger Games fan you might not find it as enjoyable, but do not worry because the next movie will have plenty of action.

The last movie to the Hunger Games series will be Mockingjay: Part Two, which will be coming to theaters November 20, 2015.

I enjoyed this article. I was able to relate to what was being said because I saw Mockingjay: Part 1. Also I think the writer could have done a better job adding more detail about the movie itself. But other than that I liked the article.

I don’t really like the way this is written by summarizing the movie. I think it’d be good to talk about the effects the movie has made on people over the world and the special effects or something, not just a summary.

Also, the first sentence of the third paragraph seems to have some typos/mis-wording.

This article was super interesting, yet it didn’t spoil anything in the movie, even though I have already seen it. I felt you explained it very well along with the fact that Philip Seymour Hoffman died a week before they finished filming, and I didn’t know that and it was super interesting! I really liked this article.
