Fossil Ridge Senior Arts Showcase: A Night of Unity

Fossil Ridge Senior Arts Showcase: A Night of Unity

On May 4th at Fossil Ridge High School the senior visual arts showcase and honors recital unveiled, representing seniors from the music program, AP studio art students and students from the culinary arts. The whole night is centered on recognizing seniors from each program and showing off their hard work. Friends and families of the seniors came in and observed what they have been up to. Since the night  showcased so many kids from different programs it really mixed everyone together and got all the students and respective families to see the work and talent of peers they do not normally interact with. It was really a friendly night full of talent and very enjoyable artwork.

The art and music hallways were lined with the portfolios of the AP studio art students who have been cranking out artwork since first semester and finally get to display it. All sorts of styles and mediums were propped up on each student’s respective displays, large easels lined the side of each display to pull people into each student’s unique and different artwork. After walking through these twenty one exhibits for about an hour, the musical performance began.

People were guided into the performing arts center to sit down for an hour of seniors from band and choir perform pieces rehearsed specially for this night. From jazz to orchestral arrangements and opera, the students were able to perform for family and peers and really dazzle the crowd. After ten unique performances everyone exited the performing arts center only to discover that the culinary arts class had cooked up something beautiful and delicious for all the guests and participants of the showcase.

From cupcakes to fruit tarts the culinary students really impressed people. Faces of delight lit up the room. As people ate their handcrafted desserts they had another chance to go around and look again at the art portfolios. To many people’s surprise, the culinary arts students had made so much dessert  that they had some leftover. At the end of the night, the crowd of proud families and satisfied art students walked off into the dark rainy night feeling fulfilled.
This showcase really brought students together, no matter what class they were a part of they all came out to support and appreciate each other’s art forms, creating a sense of community among the arts at Fossil Ridge High School.
