“It might not have been the prettiest game, but we won.” said Cole Schilling, summing up the conference match up between Fossil Ridge and Horizon.
The Sabercats (10-4) squeezed by against Horizon tonight, winning 48-42, in what should have been a more comfortable win. After starting off with a strong first quarter, the remaining three quarters of the game turned out to be just “so-so”.
Fossil came out with energy, hitting two three-pointers right off the bat, and forcing a few turn overs in the first couple minutes of the game. Leading 15-7 at the end of the first quarter, the energy shifted in the second quarter.
Braxton Bertolette put up 21 points for the Sabercats, leading the team for the night. Besides Bertolette, most of the teams other shots just were not falling.
“The opportunities were there,” said Schilling. “We did a fine job of moving the ball around and working the offense, but there are always times when the won’t find its way through the net.”
Talent is apparent when a team that doesn’t play well still finds a way to seal a game with a win. Now with a record of 3-1 in conference play, the Sabercats will look to continue rolling next week.
