Loveland was not a team that Fossil Ridge should have struggled against, but that proves that any team can show up to play on any given night.
Fossil Ridge looked sloppy tonight with a lot of unforced turn overs, and ugly shots. Braxton Bertolette, the leading scorer in 5A, struggled to hit shots he typically hits, not giving the team some extra momentum that usually arises from his big plays.
Garrett Schmidt started off the game hitting back to back three-pointers for Fossil, giving them some energy early on. Senior, Jackson Everhart joined Schmidt and picked up a good percentage of the second half points for Fossil. Both seniors were incredible on the boards as well.
The Sabercats led the Indians with a comfortable 10 point lead throughout most of the game, but in the 4th quarter, Loveland came back to give Fossil a scare late in the game.
Ayden Eberhart and Ben Newton, guards for Loveland, shot incredibly well for the Indians, leading them to the late 4th quater push. Another senior, KU track and field commit, Marcus Quere, played strong defense, causing some of Bertolette’s difficulty.
In the last couple minutes of the game, Fossil Ridge would get up by three or four, and the Indians would answer back, hitting a 3-pointer to put them right back in the game. The final score was 78-74, Sabercats coming out on top.
It wasn’t a pretty performance for Fossil Ridge, but they pulled out a win on the road, increasing their record to 13-6.
The Sabercats have a big upcoming week, facing their two strongest in-city rivals, Rocky Mountain and Fort Collins High School.
