Sabercat Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America(FCCLA) and Pantene Beautiful Lengths are certainly going to great lengths for patients battling diseases or illnesses contributing to hair loss. Fossil will be hosting professional hair stylists in the Small Gym to cut hair that will be made into wigs and sold to those needing hair on Feb. 20 from 2:00pm to 5:00pm.
Pantene Beautiful Lengths is a non- profit organization partnered with the American Cancer Society that creates and distributes wigs for patients. More than 800,000 ponytails have been donated to date.
Leading the FCCLA Poinytail Drive, Chloe Harp, stated her own personal reasons for initiating the project. “Many other members including myself have had relatives struggling with cancer and other illnesses causing hairloss,” she said, “I wanted to host this project in honor of my family and those of others.” Harp, will be cutting her hair for the good cause, but not at the Poinytail Drive. She will be presenting her project at the FCCLA State Conference and cutting eight inches of her poinytail in front of her audience.
Every inch of donated hair will yield certain amounts of revenue from sponsors enabling the distribution of cheap or free wigs. Harp claimed that the expense of wigs would benefit “people with high medical costs and bring hope to people who truly need it.”
Participants are asked to treat his or her hair with extra care to keep from damage. Hair must be a minimum of eight inches and wavy or curly hair must be straightened. Those giving hair must be washed, dry, and free of product. If hair is permanently colored or have more than five percent gray, they will be unable to donate hair.
There are still ways to aid the cause if some are unable to participate or would rather help differently. By becoming a sponsor, individuals would be donating money for the making of wigs and other fundraising.
