Varsity volleyball defends their undefeated season

Blackout night kicks off with what was an insanely heated match against Chaparral High School as the Fossil Ridge High School’s varsity volleyball team takes the court to start warming up, welcomed by the support from both fan and student sections in the Fossil main gym Tuesday, September 6.

First set begins with Chaparral already falling behind as Fossil scores the first two points of the match in the first five minutes. Teamwork made this win possible as the girls kept communicating and held both their defensive and offensive lines throughout the first set. Both teams put up a fight as the set heated up and went out with a bang. Fossil won the first set with a final score of 25-17.

The fire kept going as the second set began with Chaparral taking the lead by scoring their first point of the set with Fossil on their heels. However, the Sabercats tied it up after scoring their first point of the set in three minutes. The Sabercats didn’t let their opponents gain any lead on them with the point difference never going above one until the end when Chaparral tightened up their offense and their defensive intensity lowered, allowing Fossil to score enough points to take a more visible lead. Final score of the second set ended up at 25-16 in the favor of Fossil with only one more set ahead.

Members of the junior varsity, C, and D girls volleyball team held a serving contest at the break, testing fans to see if they could own up to the skills these girls had. Once the fans had had their fun and were back in the student section cheering for their varsity team the final set began. Unlike the previous two sets Fossil was clearly lacking as Chaparral took the lead, upping their defense to prevent any more points from being scored. However, Fossil caught up and even defeated Chaparral as Catie Semadeni scored the final and winning point of the night. The gym roared with pride as the night finished with a score of 24-22.
