Friday October 21, the Fossil Ridge Football team took on Denver East High School for their Homecoming game on French Field. After a long and eventful game, the Sabercats suffered a 25-28 loss.
Although the ‘Cats looked ‘off’ when it came to completing rushes, their grit, heart and drive were unquestionably there. Not a single player quit on the game, playing hard until the final whistle was blown. The team had a hard time executing plays, and it seemed as though Quarterback Griffin Roberts wasn’t connecting or combining as well as usual with some of the offensive stars like Brandon Spraberry and Donovan Murphree — at least not before the final minutes of the game, before Murphree scored two touchdowns.
Once the second half was underway, Junior Kevyn Simpson was seriously injured. Medical personnel made their way onto the field, aiding Simpson as he layed on the turf motionless. He had been fouled on an illegal hit — one of Denver East’s offensive players hit Simpson making contact with his jaw and his neck. After a visit to the hospital we were updated that he is ok and expected to recover just fine.
With all of that aside, the Sabercats played hard, not giving in after Simpson was taken away. Unfortunately their season won’t continue into the playoffs, their loss against Denver East bumped them out of the running. The boys have a chance to redeem themselves with a win on Thursday, October 27, at 6 on French Field as they take on Far Northeast High School.
