Those that have already experienced their final high school season, and the thrill and the heartbreak that comes along with it, can agree that there’s nothing more bittersweet than beginning that final chapter. Knowing that it is last time you’ll be playing your rivals, the last times you’ll be suiting up in your uniform, and the last times you’ll be representing your school is sublime.
Senior and three year veteran, Noah Watters, is now taking on his final chapter of Fossil Ridge athletics as the 2017 baseball season swings into play. After an interview with Watters he mentioned, “It’s crazy to think about how this is my last year playing at and for Fossil. I can remember showing up to my first pre-season lifting session like it was yesterday. This season, being my last, I am going to take advantage of every opportunity I have to make it as much fun as possible.”
Besides playing baseball, Watters loves spending time outdoors. He likes taking hikes with his friends or his mother, and he enjoys going pheasant hunting with his father when they have time for it. He and his sister often take bike rides together, as his family is a huge part of his life. Watters commented, “My family is my rock. They have all played a huge part in both my athletics and personal life. My dad was the one who introduced me to this sport and has pushed me ever since I began playing. On the other hand, my mother, she is like my nurse. As a catcher, I am always coming home with bruises, cuts, and scratches and during my games she’s always worrying about me getting hurt, just as every other mother does her child. Every time she bandages me up or give me ice she makes sure that I know that she hates that I catch, but also that she will support me no matter what.”
Watters goal for this final season of Fossil Ridge baseball is to give his all every game. He wants to enjoy everything and anything there is to enjoy in these last few weeks. “This year we are out for it all. We have the talent. We have the mindset. When we put the two together good things will happen.”
After a handful of games in this 2017 spring season, the boys are sitting with a (2-5) record. Prior to spring break the SaberCats took on Northglenn High School, losing (0-6), as well as Coconino High School, who they beat (3-2). Following those two games, they took loses against Nogales High School (2-14), Centennial High School (1-5), Page High School (6-10), and Thompson Valley High School (11-13).. After a few tough losses early on the boys found some redemption in their game against Greenway High School, which they won (5-3).
Their next game is on April 6, at home at 4:00 pm against cross town rival Fort Collins High School. Follow @frhssportsnews on Twitter for more updates.
