On Thursday, April 13, the Fossil Ridge SaberCats pulled out a big win against Loveland High School. Preceding that somewhat unchallenging game, the ‘Cats walked away with a (20-3) win over the Indians. However, after riding that exciting high, on Saturday, April 15, the boys lost to the Poudre Impalas (2-4).
After a hard (0-13) loss in their game against Broomfield High School (record 8-4), along with this loss against Poudre (record of 1-9), the SaberCats are struggling to come together as a unit. Senior Dayton Williams commented, “It’s upsetting to see that one cross-town game slip away, especially because it was the last time I’ll play them. Our record isn’t indicative of the talent level on the team. We are a team of great talent but we haven’t been able to put the 3 aspects of the game together quite yet.”
Although the ‘Cats might’ve fumbled through the game, the Impalas found themselves connecting left and right. After an interview with Poudre’s Head Coach Pat Normandin, he commented, “Playing as a team was our goal. We’ve only played as team a few times this year, and our game against Fossil was one of those instances. Fossil played outstanding defense to deny us runs; with the bases loaded and no outs we still couldn’t score. This was only the second time Poudre had beaten Fossil in many years. For us to come away with a win against a well coached and talented team was a confirmation that we as a program are going in the right direction.”
On Tuesday, April 18, Fossil took another loss to Fairview High School (3-13). The SaberCats record now sits at (3-10) with six games left in regular season play. The boys’ next game is Saturday, April 22, at 11:00 at Fossil. Come out and support and follow @frhssportsnews on Twitter for more updates.
