Saturday December 2, Fossil Ridges JV cheer had their state competition at the Denver Coliseum. The Sabercats received first place out of 16 teams in the 5A division. For the Sabercats routine they scored 81.55 points and beat Eagle Crest High School by only .02 points. This is the first time Fossil’s JV cheer team has won state, and they couldn’t be happier. “I think winning state is a great accomplishment. Since it’s our first year winning JV state it’s a big deal for us. Ever since fall tryouts we have been working really hard with all of the new girls. Most teams have been working since May to perfect their routine and we have been working since September.” stated Manasa Srikanth.

Many people are unaware of the hard work and dedication that goes into being a cheerleader. With the season starting in September, they practice everyday after school for multiple hours at a time. Not to mention cheerleading is a very dangerous sport, from tumbling to doing stunts in the air. “This year was truly amazing and we couldn’t have done it without hard work and coming together. In the end of it all the details in our routine made the biggest impact.” stated JV captain Makenna Lewis. Next time you see one of the JV cheerleaders, congratulate them on the win.
