The Sabercats varsity cheer team placed ninth at state

Abby Bordewick

Fossil Ridges varsity cheerleading team had their state competition Saturday, December 9. The Sabercats  unfortunately had a deduction during their routine which put them in 9th place out of 36 different teams.Even though they got 9th place they beat every other cheer team in Fort Collins, they all received 30th place and even lower. The Sabercats weren’t  thrilled with the placement but they were all very proud of their team work.

During a competition the teams get judged on their routine they perform, and the music that they play. Cherokee Trail High school got first place at the 5A state competition with a total of 87.85 points, and no deductions. Rock Canyon high school placed second and got a total score of 86.35 with no deductions as well. The Sabercats received 79.35 points including the two deductions they judges gave them.

Right now Fossil is preparing for Nationals that will be in February at Disney World in Florida.” Everyone on the team has a lot of dedication and we push through a lot of injuries, but we cheer because performing is amazing and we love the sport. We’ve improved so much this year and have had the most difficult routine anyone has ever had. We have had a really good season so far and we are really excited to go to nationals.” stated Sarah Hertz. Congratulations again to the varsity cheer team from placing in the top ten at state.
