Crushing victory against cross-town rival Lambkins

In a white-out game Tuesday January 30 against Fort Collins High School, Fossil Ridge High School emerges victorious. History remains untouched as the Sabercats beat the Lambkins last year in a Great Eight match.

The game took place at Collins where one half of the stadium wore black, representing the home team, the Lambkins while the other was filled with proud Sabercats dressed in white. The game started with Eli Hughes winning the tip-off.

Despite the advantage the Lambkins took the first point, but this would be the only time in the entire game they were in the lead. Eli Nutting took the game back for the Sabercats getting two beginning baskets. At this point, Collins was already calling a timeout, attempting to strategize.

It was no match for the Sabercats and straight after the timeout, Hughes made two baskets due to Collins fouling and giving Hughes two chances to get a point. From there Cayden Clagett,  Carter Gray, Nutting, and Sean Purvis were vital members in gaining points for the team.

Fossil took the first quarter 22-10 which only angered the Lambkins more. The second quarter remained the same with both teams making a few baskets but the second quarter soon hit its climax when the Lambkins found their stride.

They forced Fossil into a timeout and took nineteen points that quarter while Fossil only gained eleven putting the score at 33-29.

The Lambkins fire was not enough and quickly burned out at the beginning of the third quarter. The Sabercats weaved through Collins’ defense and pushed them into calling two timeouts throughout the quarter. Any strategy was not enough to take the lead back and players Clagett, Nutting, and Purvis continued to put the ball through the basketball.

The Sabercats gained a total of eleven points in the quarter before Collins even gained one. With thirty seconds left in the quarter, Purvis made two points for the team and Hughes made one, Fossil wrapped up the quarter 51-40.

There was no opportunity of redemption for the Lambkins and Fossil maintained a steady ten-point lead throughout the quarter. Walker Shields concluded the game by crushing the ball into the net and with that the annual regular season basketball game against Collins concluded. Fossil won 65-55.

They play next in an away game Friday February 2 against Horizon at 6:30 p.m.
