Every Monday from 4:10 to 5:15 p.m. senior Ezabella Gahagan and sophomore Mckenna Clark give students a chance to create different art projects at Art club.
“Each week we do a different project,” freshman Tamara Whittaker said
Whittaker thinks that it is nice to experiment with new things.
“For Halloween, we decorated pumpkins which I really liked,” junior Lucia Lu said.
Art club is sponsored by Laura Cronen, one of Fossil’s art teachers.
“I’ll pop in and see what kids are doing and what they’re working on, and then I just stay to make sure that everyone is in a positive, safe, inclusive environment,” Cronen said.
This is Cronen’s second year being the sponsor of Art club, but Art club has been an option for students ever since Fossil opened.
“Art is really good for mental health, so to be able to take some time out of the day to be in the moment and focus on making something that’s fun and not stressful, because you’re not making it for a grade,” Cronen said.
Art club is a great substitute for students who do not want to take regular art classes but still want to make art.
“Art class is more specific on a project and classwork,” Lu said, “but Art club is unique because it works on everything.”
Everybody is welcome to join and sit wherever they like.
“It’s a really inclusive environment, and people are friendly and very accepting, and they’re just all there to have fun and make art,” Cronen said.
Art club gives students an opportunity to make new friends and feel part of a community.
“We do cool things like have hot chocolate sometimes,” Cronen said, “I would just say look around for signs if we’re having special events around the school and that kind of stuff.”
