Hundreds of eighth graders crowd tables in the courtyard, pencil and paper in hand to learn more about the Fossil Ridge High School. Clubs showcase their achievements with trophies, creations, or even offer a bribe of candy. They wander the seemingly endless hallways during their tour, wondering how they will avoid getting lost.
On April 29, Preston Middle School, along with a few students from other middle schools, visited to see what it has to offer. They get an introductory presentation, some performances from the school music groups, a tour of the school, and a look some of Fossil’s clubs.

“My favorite part of the day was the band’s performance,” said eighth grader Mallory Brown.
Harlee Senn was one of the first eighth graders to a club booth and she is ready to do cross country in the Fall. Alena Pletsch also wants to do sports when she gets to high school.
“I want to do basketball and track. I do discus and shotput,” she said.
About 15% of the students interviewed want to do Football, which continues to make it one of Fossil’s most popular sports. About 90 students were on the Varsity team alone for the ’24-’25 school year.

Outside of athletics, some students are looking forward to the arts at Fossil, such as choir, band, and even architecture.
“I’m going to play the trumpet in marching band,” said eighth grader Aiden Flaso.
Even with all the excitement for high school, the students are going to miss middle school.

“I’m gonna miss the [Preston] band teacher, [Joshua] Greiner,” eighth grader Emma Panpquasi said.
“I’ll miss having no homework,” Lauren Huff laughed.
Fang the Sabercat, Fossil’s mascot, hyped up the kids the whole day, ensuring their school spirit starts strong. Overall, after this visit day, the Class of 2029 is ready to conquer high school.
