Alec Gordon, the new East Wing Secretary, hopes to bring positivity and a welcoming atmosphere to Fossil Ridge High School.
Before Gordon began working at Fossil this school year, he was a benefits technician at the Larimer County Department of Human Services. He was responsible for interviewing families applying for Medicaid and food assistance.
“I’ve always wanted to work at a school. I thought it was really cool how consistent the day-to-day is. Like, you know who you’re going to see, what you’re going to be doing,” said Gordon.
One of the reasons why Gordon came to Fossil was because of previous connections.
“I used to be Dr. Gedde’s student, [and] I was pretty excited to have an opportunity to be here,” he said of Assistant Principal Sonja Gedde.
Gordon also hopes to bring an optimistic and open-minded atmosphere to the school.
“I hope to bring a more understanding and positive environment, and I want students to feel like when they’re interacting with me, it’s less like that they’re interacting with a disciplinary figure,” said Gordon.
East Wing staff members have felt the impact of Gordon’s arrival.
“He’s brought a lot of positivity to the East Wing,” said Brooks Ramsey, one of the deans. “He connects well with students. They feel welcome when they come into the office.”
Destiny Smith, a newly hired student monitor, said his attitude helps the school.
“[Students] feel like they have a place to come to,” Smith said. “And then therefore that makes our jobs of trying to correct behavior and make sure everybody is safe a lot easier.”
