On Feb. 9 dreams came true when the Fossil Ridge High School girls’ swim team took second place at the State Swim Meet at Eldora Pool and Ice Center, Fort.Collins. The FRHS swim team did incredibly well trying to keep up with Regis Jesuit and their weapon of choice Olympic Gold Medalist Missy Franklin. The points were: Regis- 287 and FRHS with a 243.
The points were close during the duration of the meet. Teams were cheering each other on as they competed for first place and points. Some of the girls who rang up the points were senior Rhianna Williams, sophomore Bailey Nero, junior Sammie Guay, and freshman Emilee Dinkel.
Sophomore Bailey Nero said, “This was a great season of swim, all the girls came closer together and overall we have a great time together.” This year the team was undefeated for the second consecutive season.
The girls have been swimming down the same path as previous years considering that the lowest place they achieved was second place in the state tournament. Since the swim and dive team are well-known after winning the state title last season, they are expected to be very successful. There were 33 teams competing at the two-day meet.. It was a tough race between all these teams to take the first three places.
FRHS proved themselves yet again this year. Under head coaches Mark Morehouse and Carolyn Fries they knew this would be a year to remember. The team has a lot of young talent that will be here next year. Nero said, “Next year we are going to take home the state title once more.”
