Not long after Colorado’s attempt to split into two states, the neighbors on the west coast are trying to split up too. While California has proposed to break off into new states before, Tim Draper, a Silicon Valley venture capitalist, has proposed to split California into six different states. The break-up of the Golden State would work like so, according to Draper’s plan:
– Silicon Valley, which would include San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose, and extends to Santa Cruz and Monterey counties.
– South California, containing San Diego and Orange County.
– West California, made up of Los Angeles, Santa Monica and Santa Barbara
– Central California, which would include The Central Valley
– North California, harboring the greater Sacramento area as well as Marin and Sonoma counties
– Jefferson, created from the rural counties in far Northern California
The division of the state would face some difficulties, including equally delegating state debt as well as state-wide programs. But before anyone can address those problems, Draper must collect 808,000 signatures by mid-July.
Even if all of this is to pass, Congress must approve the creation of six states. The split would add 10 more senators into the senate, putting even more Democrat power into the government. This leaves many skeptical of the proposal ever being successful.
Do you think that California should split? Let us know in the comments below.

Your graphic is the bomb diggity!
Also, this story is just crazy! If it does pass, I can’t imagine getting new maps with all those extra lines. And what would the flag look like?

Why thank you Miss Vickie 🙂 Yeah, we’d need to print a ton of new maps. We would probably do what they did last time we needed a new flag and create a contest. It would probably be similar, but we’d have to find a way to add a few extra stars.
