Last week on April 30, time marked the tenth anniversary of the most classic chick flick of our generation.
A whole decade ago, “Fetch” was attempted but never happened, and everyone was personally victimized by Regina George. 520 Wednesdays of pink wardrobes later, people still have their Mean Girls DVD on a constant playback.
There’s no doubt that the movie’s events would have been different if it would have taken place in 2014. For example, Regina’s Juicy Couture sweat suit probably would be swapped for a nice pair of Victoria’s Secret PINK yoga pants and hoodies. But putting time differences aside, Mean Girls still has its catty high school claws sunk deep in the modern teen/young adult. And if you’re a teenage girl who’s never seen or doesn’t like Mean Girls, Gretchen Weiners has 7 words for you.
10 years later, the stars of the movie are in completely different places in life. Lindsay Lohan, who played the innocent heroine, Cady Heron, is now known for her party girl drug stints and complete mental breakdown in the mid 2000s; but back when Mean Girls came out, she was the fresh faced redhead with a promising future.
Amanda Seyfried, who plays Karen Smith, the dumbest girl in the movie’s popular girl’s clique, has been in 25 movies since Mean Girls, including Academy Award winner/nominee Les Miserables.
Lacey Chabert’s character, Gretchen Weiners, is the daughter of the man who invented Toaster Strudels and personally the inventor of some of the most famous quotes from the movie. Today, Chabert is still involved in her acting career and has a few projects coming out this year like horror movie The Lost Tree.
Finally, the queen bee of the movie, Regina George played by even bigger queen bee of the entertainment industry Rachel McAdams, is still booming with her performances in today’s movie industry, including About Time. The Notebook, and The Vow.
A decade later, this cinematic masterpiece of a perfect sleepover movie never ceases to make people laugh every time they watch it. 10 years from now, people will most likely still be watching Mean Girls from time to time. There’s never going to be a limit to how many times a person can watch this movie, whether it be the laughter inducing jokes, or the beyond fathomable situations. The limit does not exist.
