They call themselves Shatterproof, a five-piece group from Fort Collins. Set to open for popular alternative-rock band, Switchfoot, on October 4 at the Budweiser Event Center, the powerful violin-based alternative band is well on their way to making it big.
Fortoberfest is an annual event held in Old Town Fort Collins that’s intended to wrap up the summer and showcase Fort Collins’ distinct culture by focusing on bicycles and bands.
Shatterproof wasn’t headlining Fortoberfest this year, but they should have been. Talented lead-singer and acoustic guitarist Branson Hoog was extremely welcoming, and within minutes he had everyone feeling like we weren’t just some people gathering to watch a local band play, we were a family.
Right off the bat, they collected everyone’s full attention with violinist TJ Wessel’s unique role. With Lindsey Stirling-like vibes radiating from Wessel’s electric performance, it’s impossible to not be intrigued by this band. Lucky for the audience, it only gets better.
Throughout the 120 minute time period that Shatterproof owned the stage, bassist and unclean vocalist Josh Schoenig continuously amazed with his incredible energy. Between jumps and kicks, Schoenig delivered killer vocals and bass lines that tied all other elements of the songs together.
But where would any alternative rock band be without an awesome lead guitarist and an incredible drummer? Lead guitarist Jeremy Marmor was throwing out impressive guitar riffs all night. Marmor and drummer Benji Spolianksy seemed to be the most chill members on stage, but despite this, they provided some of the most energy-filled pieces of songs with the extraordinary talent they have with their instruments.
If the opportunity arises to see this band live, it should without a doubt be taken.
