“I had this Christmas tune lying around. Then I picked it up and dusted it off. The dust turned out to be Christmas wishes and candy cane dreams sprinkled magically across your imagination,” said Dallon Weekes about his song, “Sickly Sweet Holidays,” on December 16, 2011.
At the time, it was just an upload on YouTube by “The Brobecks,” Weekes’ solo band, featuring Weekes sitting by himself with a guitar and singing, with a surprise visit from his daughter, Amelie. But now it’s a holiday single that was good enough to make it into popular Cleveland-based music magazine, Alternative Press (http://www.altpress.com/)
It was no surprise that the Panic! At The Disco bassist would eventually make a return to his beloved solo career, however it was a surprise he’d be teaming up with Falling In Reverse drummer Ryan Seaman. On the single, Weekes takes lead vocals and bass while Seaman takes care of drums and backup vocals.
“Sickly Sweet Holidays” is your classic Christmas single, with plenty of piano and jingle bells sprinkled throughout, with lovely lyrics about a lovely girl. The single is undoubtedly more polished than the version uploaded in 2011, but it’s easy to miss Dallon’s raw acoustic version. Listen to both versions below and let us know what you think!
