With the Regionals and State matches coming up, the Fossil Ridge High School boy’s golf team understood the importance of doing well at the Conference match last Thursday, Sept. 13.
All 12 teams in the Northern Conference participated in the conference match. At the end of the day FRHS finished in third place out of the 12 teams. The top two finishers for FRHS were Tyler Bricker with a score of 74 and Will Thwaites’ score of 80. “The strength of the team is that we are very good short game players and we are also very good around the greens,” head coach Mike Quinn said.
As well as being the top finisher for the FRHS team, senior Tyler Bricker was named the Player of the Year in the Northern Conference and First Team All-Conference. He also took medalist honors in the Conference match, while junior Will Thwaites was Honorable Mentioned for the Conference team.
After the team’s performance at the Conference Match, FRHS will next play in the Regionals Tournament Friday, Sept. 21. There were 21 teams at the Regionals Tournament at Marianna Butte inLoveland. Then from Regionals, the top two finishing teams will represent the region in the State Tournament. “It will be a challenge to make it to State as a team,” Quinn said.
The players from FRHS will be going to Regionals include senior Tyler Bricker, juniors Eric Hill, Austin Preiss, and Ian Murray.
