Junior varsity soccer has a successful week

Fossil Ridge High School took the field against Loveland on Tuesday, September 13  at home. The boys were confident going into the game, previously aware that the skill in this Fossil teams easily contrasts that of Loveland’s team. The first goal was scored 3 minutes into the game, which proved to be the only luck Fossil had during the first half. Although Fossil dominated the game they had issues controlling the ball, and  unlucky chances in front of the goal. Dominating the first half of the game, Fossil kept their 1-0 lead heading into the second half.

Fossil finally got their second goal after some time of play. As the final buzzer went off the score was 2-0 in Fossils favor. Goalkeeper coach Ken Osterberg makes the comment, “That game should have ended in a mercy rule.” This shutout win led the Sabercats into their second game of the week with confidence.

Poudre High School’s JV boys soccer didn’t know the strength Fossil Ridge High School had as the first half began on Fossil Ridge’s north grass on Thursday, September 15. Even though Poudre has a very strong offensive line, Fossil came out hard with multiple shots on net and  kept the ball in Poudre’s half for the majority of the game. It was a corner kick that led team captain, Connor Higgins to crash the net and score the first goal of the game putting the team in the lead 1-0.Although the Sabercats had possession issues and trouble putting away their shots, Fossil still dominated the first half. They finished with a score of 4-0 by the end of the first half.

An immediate shot on net from Poudre was taken as the second half began. Poudre began gaining momentum as they were getting shots off against the Sabercats, however, Fossil matched the Impalas’ intensity by scoring two more goals to increase the lead to 6-0. Poudre took advantage of the keeper change for Fossil, with Jack Bohl coming out and David Wilhelm going. The Impalas scored two goals after that change was made, causing the score to change to 6-2. The final score was 11-2, a win for Fossil, as the two teams line up to shake hands.
