Another winning week for JV soccer

Rocky Mountain High School and Fossil Ridge High School played an intense game on the evening of Tuesday, September 20. No one team dominated in the beginning, both showed they were strong teams. However, it was Fossil who scored first with Kyle Schmer crashing the net and taking the 1-0 lead. Not long after the first goal another was scored by Fossil, as they start to dominate. The game continued on and mistakes started piling up for the Sabercats. Bad touches and lack of communication allowed Rocky to have numerous shots on Fossil’s net. After injuring two of Rocky’s players Fossil started scoring and becoming more aggressive. The first half ended with a score of 4-0, a shutout for Fossil.

The boys rose their intensity and start the second half by storming into Rocky’s defensive half. The game continued as heated as the first half when both teams started getting aggressive. Numerous bad and illegal plays got ignored by the ref, causing a stream of lip service from coaches and players. Soon the score goes up when Fossil scores on one of their many shots on Rocky, expanding their lead to 5-0. The last goal was scored when Rocky’s goalkeeper pushed the ball into his own net on an attempted save, making the score 6-0. The first rivalry game of the season ended with a score of 6-0, in favor of the Sabercats.

Thursday, September 20 Fossil played Horizon High School on the north grass. . It was Keegan Cook who scored the first goal of the game and got Fossil into higher spirits. Cook’s goal set a new tone for the game, Fossil came out stronger than before. Horizon is too strong of a team to just give up and soon enough Fossil is making bad passes and can’t keep the ball under control. Frustration is evident on the Fossil team as they continuously charge the net and have numerous shots on net, but can’t score another goal. Horizon builds up steam as Fossil loses it, allowing Horizon to tie up the game. The first half ended with a score of 1-1, Horizon proving the predominant team.

Second half begins with a different team stepping on for Fossil. Improved communication helped Daniel “Danny” Bostock score the second goal of the game, on a penalty kick in the goal box. After Bostock’s goal Fossil gradually starts playing worse, refusing to pass and not receiving passes well. The game continues with Fossil maintaining the lead, but Horizon playing as the better team. As the second half comes to a close Bostock scores the final goal, ending the game 3-1, another win for Fossil.
