A great finish to the boys golf team
October 6, 2017
Fossil Ridge’s boys golf competed in the 5A State Competition on October 2 and 3, at CommonGround Golf Course in Aurora. CommonGround Golf Course has many long and wide holes with few trees. There are multiple ponds and streams on the golf course which makes it more challenging for the golfers.
Fossil’s representatives were Dillion Stewart (junior), Josh Caridi (senior), Jack Hastings (senior), and Gavin Hagstrom (sophomore). The results from both days are as follows:
Dillon Stewart: 69 and 72
Josh Caridi: 75 and 83
Jack Hastings: 78 and 82
Gavin Hagstrom: 79-82
As the first day of the competition came to a close, Stweart was sitting in the lead after shooting a 69. After hitting two bogies and four birdies over the course of the day, Stewart found himself two strokes under par, landing him a solid position on the leaderboard. “I know I am strong in all aspects of my game, and I’m very consistent and that is what keeps me in contention for a lot of tournaments.” commented Stewart. As a team, the Sabercats shot a 222 and were in second place overall. Regis had 217 strokes and were in the running for first place.
The second day of the tournament, Stewart shot one over par and got 2nd place as in individual for the 5A division.” I was disappointed at first but, soon after I realized that I should be proud of myself representing Fossil Ridge the way I did” Stewart mentioned. Fossil placed 6th place as a team.
Next time you see one of the Sabercat golfers, congratulate them on their top 10 finish at state.
