Annual Fort Collins Peach Festival
Aug. 24
Hughes Stadium
Vendors including TCBY, Fort Collins Rotary Club, and CB and Potts attracted a large crowd to Hughes Stadium Aug. 24 for the annual Fort Collins Peach Festival. This year, the festival included several bands, two pie eating contests, and a performance by Cheer and Dance Connection. There were also contest drawings for eagle’s tickets hourly and an appearance by the Eagle Chicks. Several Fossil Ridge High School students and teachers were spotted partaking in peach centered food and enjoying live music and free giveaways. Among these students were seniors Alex Semadeni (left), Sewyer Novak, Matt Laine and Brandon Bodnar who were selling fresh Colorado peaches from Palisade, Colorado. When asked about the turn out, Bodnar commented “[There were] a lot more people than I expected for a peach festival!” For being the first time the festival was held at Hughes Stadium instead of on campus, the peach festival was a huge success yet again.
USA ProChallenge
Aug. 24
Northern Colorado
On Aug. 24 the third annual USA Pro Challenge raced in Northern Colorado during Stage Six. The race goes on for seven consecutive days and is a total of 599 miles including high-mountain altitudes in the Colorado Rockies. The pro cyclists began Stage Six by the Ranch Events center in Loveland, traveled through Windsor, up through Estes Park and finished in Fort Collins at College Avenue and Mountain Avenue. Coloradans everywhere surrounded the streets to catch a peek at the cyclists. Many of the competitors were those that had raced in the Tour de France, including the winner Chris Froome. The race ended with Peter Sagan placing first in the stage, and Fort Collins’ own Tejay van Garderen keeping the overall lead.
