Despite the cold winds and stormy clouds above the Fossil Ridge High School turf field fans had never seen a more close-knit team than the group of girls in white uniforms. The Sabercats said goodbye to all twelve of their senior players who were given a heartwarming and sad farewell from their younger teammates. Each senior walked off to meet their parents while a younger varsity teammate read a speech about the senior. Most seniors cried and hugged their “littles” and each other as they stood on the field before their last home game.

The game was played against Fairview High School on Tuesday, May 1 in an intense game that Fossil lost 0-1. Injured seniors Kenady Adams and Katie Townsend ceremonial kicked off the game before running off the field to let the game begin. The wind was strong and worked against the Sabercats in the first half, but it was the amazing defensive line and aggression from every player that helped keep the score tied until half.

In the second half, Fossil worked with the wind and tried to score on Fairview to take the lead. Continued strength and determination from the Sabercats kept them fighting until the end. They played better together in this game than any other all season, their communication and technique were amazing. It was a bittersweet game as they not only said goodbye to their seniors, mentors, and friends but also lost the game 0-1.

Fossil will play their last game of the season against Boulder High School at Boulder 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, May 3. Congratulate these amazing girls on their final home game and wish them luck on the final game they play. All player statistics and game results can be found on MaxPreps.
