Sir Elton John is someone that most people are at least vaguely familiar with – or the name simply rings a bell. Elton John was a popular musician in the 1970s, and his music is still widely listened to today. With more than 30 albums there are many songs to listen to, but some of his more famous songs include “I’m Still Standing”, “Sacrifice”, and “Can You Feel the Love Tonight”.  

One of my personal favorite songs of his is “I’m Still Standing”. This popular song has several notable covers such as on the television show Glee and in the movie Sing. While the song can be interpreted in many different ways, the general idea is that after somebody pushes you down you get back up and move on, stronger than ever. The song has a powerful beat and a fast tempo, compared to some of the other songs he sings. It’s a wonderful song to listen to when you’re feeling droopy, in a slump, or if you just want a really fun song to dance to.

“Sacrifice” is not what you would call your typical “love song”. The song is about the struggles that love brings. While some interpret it as meaning that true love is worth any sacrifice, it is more commonly said to be a song about what it is like to not love someone anymore and how that isn’t a sacrifice. When the song was released, it initially sat at the number fifty-five spot on the UK singles chart. However, by the summer of 1990, the song regained popularity and made it to the number one spot as Elton John’s first solo to do so.

Most people know the song “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” as the beautiful song from Disney’s The Lion King, but it seems few people actually know that the song was originally composed by Sir Elton John. This song won him the Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance in (year). Though he had been nominated several times before, this was his first official win. The song was widely recognized as a love song and was one of the most popular songs to have played at a wedding. Even today the song can be heard often and when watching The Lion King.

Elton John’s music is very interesting to listen to and is full of musicality. While it can seem stuck in the past, I still believe that his music is worth a listen today if you’re looking for some good quality songs to play.
