Back from winter break, on January 10 the Fossil Ridge wrestling team was eager to compete against the Loveland High Indians and concluded their dual with a victorious score of 41-30. Although the night began as a struggle for the first few matches, the team was able to pull through and win enough individual matches to account for two forfeits as well.

Cody Ginther gets slammed to the mats before battling with his opponent for an escape.
Team manager, Jaden Kendall was hopeful after the second match and adds that they have been “doing better” and that “all the varsity guys have done really well” when asked about their stance leading up to regionals. They are currently focused on improving their ground work.

This was evident as Ian Sampson, a junior began his match.  He won his match by pinning his opponent after 1:21 in the first period. He described his opponent as “a pretty big guy” and that he thought he “was going to lose.” Before the night ended he added that they are all “preparing as much as we can” for the end of the season.

There is just over a month until the team competes at regionals and then on to state. As a team they placed twelfth in their most recent tournament, the Arnold Torgerson. The wrestlers are working on their individual goals of competing at regionals where they can hopefully qualify for the state competition.
