On Tuesday, January 28, the Fossil Ridge High School Girls Basketball team defeated Legacy High School 51-23. This is a big win, as it puts Fossil above Legacy in the 5A Front Range standings. This is the league that all Fossil sports teams play in, as 5A is the league for the largest schools in Colorado

The game went Fossil’s way from the start. Fossil dominated both in rebounds and sinking three-point shot after three-point shot. Fossil’s aerial superiority was even evident to the Legacy head coach, as she kept exclaiming “We need to box out!” After two quarters of non-stop scoring from Fossil, the first half ended 24-9.

The third and fourth quarters were much of the same. Fossil continued to use their momentum to steamroll over Legacy until the very last second.

The win is important both for the night and for the standings. In the 5A league, Fossil is 5-0. This puts them tied for second with Broomfield, with a game in hand on first seed Fairview.

The win on Tuesday night was an important one for the season. Fossil’s upward momentum gives the spectators no doubt that they could win it all.
