Melanie Smith is going up for a spike.

On Friday, April 30 the Fossil Ridge High School varsity volleyball team competed in their regional tournament. Going into regionals they were seeded eighth in Colorado 5A.

The girls played two games on Friday. The first against seed 17, Fruita Monument from Fruita, Colorado. The second against seed 9, Chatfield from Littleton.

Fossil took a 3-1 win against the Fruita Wildcats and after a tough five set game, they lost 2-3 against the Chatfield Chargers.

In the first game against Fruita, Fossil started strong with a 25-16 win in the first set, followed by a 25-15 win in the second set. They lost some momentum in the third set with a 18-25 score but brought it back, defeating Fruita in their last set, 25-16.

After Fruita and Chatfield battled it out, Fossil was ready to take on the Chargers in what ended up being their last game of the season. Fossil lost their first two sets 19-25 and 12-25. They came back winning the next two 25-17 and 25-22. This brought the final game to five sets where Chatfield claimed the game 12-15.

The Sabercats had a fantastic season with an overall season score of 13-2. Although this year they will not advance to state, we are excited to see what they will do in the fall.
