The Fossil Ridge Boys Basketball Team started their season winning three games in four days to win the annual Gojo Sports Tip Off Classic.

The Gojo Sports Tip Off Classic is an annual 8 team tournament held at Fossil Ridge High School to start the season. This year’s tournament also included Windsor, Poudre, Fort Collins, Severance, Vista Ridge, Vista PEAK Prep, and Denver East.

Fossil defeated Vista PEAK Prep 60-37 in their first game of both the tournament and their season. The Sabercats were all in on the defensive end, only allowing 2 points during the first quarter of the game.

The Sabercats then defeated Denver East 66-55 in the semifinal of the tournament. Fossil Ridge was led by senior Brock Mishak, who put up 20 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 steals. Mishak was pumped as Fossil was able to finally beat Denver East, who they have lost to four times in the last ten years.

“We’ve never beat them…so beating them for the first time, it’s just an awesome feeling. I’ve been dreaming about this since I was a little kid, always seeing Fossil getting beat by these guys…it’s crazy and it’s awesome,” Mishak said.

Mishak put on a shooting clinic, scoring a game-high 20 points, shooting 57% from the field and making four three pointers. Despite starting slow, Mishak kept shooting and made key shots in the clutch.

“It’s my teammates, they’re great. I wasn’t hitting early on, but they keep trusting me and finding me…we got the win, that’s all that matters,” Mishak said.

Brock Mishak scored a total of 61 points across the three games, and leads the team in points, assists, and steals.

Fossil ended the tournament defeating Vista Ridge 55-42 in the tournament final. The Sabercats trailed early, as Vista Ridge led 13-7 at the end of the first quarter. However Fossil Ridge went on a run during the second quarter, leading 25-17 at halftime, as the Sabercats would hold onto that lead for the rest of the game.

Fossil will now travel to Chaparral High School to play another tournament, starting with Castle View on Wednesday, December 8th.
