Say hello to Fossil Ridge High School’s 2013 spring musical, “Hello, Dolly!”
The show begins with Dolly Gallagher Levi, a well-known matchmaker, showing up in Yonkers, New York, to visit one of her clients, multi-millionaire, Horace Vandergelder. At Vandergelder’s store, his two clerks, Cornelius Hackl and Barnaby Tucker are told to take care of the store so that Vandergelder can go court Irene Malloy, the owner of a fancy hat shop in New York. Dolly learns that Vandergelder wants to leave to marry Irene and she convinces him to stay in New York. Dolly has intentions of marrying Vandergelder herself. Vandergelder’s niece, Ermengarde, wants to marry Ambrose but she knows that her uncle will never approve. Dolly gets involved and finds a way for Ermengarde and Ambrose to be together. Dolly also uses her crafty personality to set up Cornelius and Barnaby with Irene and Minnie Fay, Irene’s assistant.
Meanwhile, Irene is telling Minnie that even though she does not love Vandergelder that she will still marry him because she wishes to escape the millenary business. Minnie alerts her that two men are coming into the shop. Dolly arrives with Cornelius and Barnaby and the men try to impress the ladies. Irene reveals that she knows Vandergelder and that he is coming to see her. In a panic, Cornelius and Barnaby hide themselves and tell Irene not to reveal their hiding place.
