One club in the Fossil Ridge High School community which does a lot of behind the scene work to make people feel more welcome is the Pass It Forward. The club posts the “Take What You Need” posters, as well as sticky notes with inspirational quotes and the teacher valentines.
Three current members are Hailey Ruthevan and Natalie Spencer who are both sophomores at FRHS, as well as Nicole Seest, a senior. The club has around 10-15 members. “There are guys too, so it’s not all boys,” Spencer said. The FRHS counselor Mrs. Flemister runs the club. “She’s the Santa to our elves” said Spencer.
“We try make people feel more welcome. Instead of doing huge projects we try to do a little things,” Spencer said. The projects are definitely on a small scale, but can have a huge impact. The “Take What You Need” posters are a pretty cool idea, where students passing by in the halls can tear off a piece of paper with important and motivational traits for daily activities. Some examples include “joy” “forgiveness” “a smile,” “courage” etc.
This year the club is also teaming together with diversity leadership for diversity week to help with compassion day, said the members of the club.
Spencer, Seest, and Ruthevan would all recommend the club. They all say it’s fun. “We get to do good for others and meet cool people,” Ruthevan said.
“The group gets off track a lot,” said Seest. “but that’s what makes it fun,” added Ruthevan.
For anyone who wants to join, the club meets on B lunch in Mrs. Flemister’s room. Anyone is welcome to join.
